Girl on a Bird

Mythology and folklore are full of stories about people jumping onto the back of winged creatures and soaring through the sky. Who hasn’t daydreamed about the feeling of freedom as they fly through the clouds, swooping down among the treetops? This piece is my take on that magical, whimsical sense of freedom.

From the start, I knew I wanted to turn a wooden bird into a robotic flying machine. I ended up finding the perfect one in an antique shop in Beaufort, NC. After adding some silver wax, decoupage wings, and a touch of gold paint, my bird started to take shape. To finish it off, I added an old flour scoop, a golf trophy my Dad won back in 1948, a decorative ball, and a figurine. That’s how my Girl on a Bird came together! 14Hx7Wx7D
