If I Can’t Have You
This piece dives into the tough and emotional topic of abusive relationships. It portrays an abstract figure kneeling, bound by gold wire, with their heart trapped in a cage and pierced by a dart wrapped in gold. Despite the pain and confinement, the figure wears a stunning golden halo, symbolizing their inner beauty and worth. There's a striking contrast here—this person is enduring so much, yet their beauty and light still shine through, even in their struggle.
The kneeling figure is made up of a forged iron sieve, a metal brewing basket, and a wooden folding yard stick. These are tied together with copper wire that I painted gold. Inside the basket is a red clay heart made from oven baking clay. Piercing the heart is a forged nail wrapped in gold painted wire. Half of a chick feeder, decorated with gold leaf is the halo. 20x9H.5Wx9.5D
