Kate of Autun

This was my first assemblage. We had visited the Junk Girls shop in San Luis Obispo CA, and I was inspired to try this art form. I had been going to the flea market for years, picking up odds and bits. Now I wanted to see what I could create.

Wooden clipboard with vintage map and objects including a pen, compass, safe pin, and red metal piece
Close-up of a vintage brass padlock with the words "Prime Rupar" engraved on it, placed on a wooden surface.
Red chipped comma object on a table with map and safety pin
Vintage assemblage art with old map, postcard, red comma, antique lock, and pocket watch on wooden frame.
Vintage drawing of a crowned woman with wavy hair next to a rusty pocket watch with white dial and black numbers; decorative elements are also present.
Close-up of a wooden table corner with two green stones and a vintage map edge.

I placed a postcard of Saint Catherine on an old school chalkboard. then overlayed objects that had similar shapes to those in the postcard. A watch became her shield, a graphite pencil her staff, and a keyhole with key as her crown. Other objects are placed about the chalkboard to add balance and whimsy. Finally I attached a carpenter’s square to frame the frame. 11Hx10Wx3D
